History
- 1950 – Genstar Development
Company is founded in Winnipeg by the Simkin Family
under the name BACM Industries.
- 1973 – BACM Industries was
sold to Genstar Corporation and was renamed Genstar
Development Company.
- 1970 – Genstar Development
Company first expands into the United States.
- 1986 – Genstar Corporation
was acquired by Imasco Limited, which only retained
Genstar Development Company, the Canadian land
development entity of Genstar Corporation.
- 1991- Land development operations
in the United States were re-established.
- 1994 – The Corporate Offices
of Genstar Development Company (Canada) and Genstar
Land Company (USA) relocated from Vancouver to San
Diego.
- 2001 – GDC Communities formed
through the management buy-out of Genstar Development
Company (Canada).
- Today GDC Communities operates
under 2 initiatives; it owns Genstar Development Company
and directs the development of the Canadian master
planned communities, and secondly, it provides the
foundation for the US investments and operations.
